In order to keep business flowing, regardless of what industry you are in, you need a healthy and strong workforce. In fact, it is an integral part of your company’s growth - and its survival.
Unfortunately, keeping a workforce that you can depend on seems to be quite the challenge - especially in recent years.
More and more companies throughout very different industries are finding success in securing their staff from labor pools outside of the United States. They do this through the help of work visas.
What is a Work Visa?
There are many visas that allow for entry into the United States for one reason or another. Simply put, a work visa allows those in other countries to come to the U.S. for the sole purpose of working, rather than seeking immigration.
With a work visa, employers can secure part - or all - of their labor force from outside countries. During times of seasonal or temporary work, this additional help can be very beneficial. Two of the most common work visas include the H-2A and H-2B visas, involving work in the agricultural industry and the non-agricultural industry, respectively.
If you are in the agricultural industry, then you know there are certain times of year - especially planting and harvesting - when productivity isn’t where it needs to be. At the risk of losing the current workforce you have, it can be beneficial to seek outside help from other workers. The same holds true for those in nonagricultural industries, such as hospitality during the busy tourism season.
Who Can Secure a Work Visa?
According to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, to bring individuals to the U.S. for work on an H visa, you must be able to meet a few qualifications, including being able to prove that:
The talent pool in the U.S. is not sufficient to handle the temporary or seasonal work
The foreign workers will not have a negative impact on those currently working for U.S. employers
The need is temporary, either a one-time occurrence, seasonal, temporary, or intermittent.
Advantages of Hiring Foreign Workers
There are many reasons why foreign workers with work visas would be the go-to option of employers in both the agricultural and non-agricultural industries. After all, when you are in need of a workforce, you want those who are willing to show up and dedicate their time to the tasks at hand.
Work visas also bring you a few more advantages:
Greater access to those with skills and talent
Foster a happier and healthier working environment that encourages diversity
Boost productivity
Save money due to a stable workforce without having to constantly slow down to train employees
Are there any disadvantages?
Perhaps the biggest - and only - downfall to hiring a labor force from another country is all the paperwork necessary to secure the work visa. Meeting deadlines, finding skilled labor, completing and supplying the necessary documents, etc. are all involved in bringing it to fruition.
Though, the benefits far outweigh the costs.
